Iyengar Yoga is named after its founder BKS Iyengar, who was born in India in 1918. After a childhood marked by illness, he began practicing yoga at the age of 15 under the guidance of the great yoga master Shriman T. Krishnamacharya. His health improved quickly and soon after, at the suggestion of his teacher, he began teaching yoga himself.
